Cummins Re-Power

1998 Albin 28 TE (Tournament Express) Repowered in 2017 with a Cummins 6BTA 370 HP (300 Hours)

This boat has gone through numerous upgrades and all maintenance has been taken care of with an open checkbook. You will not find another one of these boats in the same condition or with the same upgrades. This Albin was outfitted to retain it's cruiser friendly features while also turning it into a fishing machine. She has fished the northeast canyons on numerous occasions. It will be hard to find a better boat for this purpose in this size range.


The boat was repowered in 2017 with a brand new Cummins 6BTA 370 HP. The engine was preped and ordered from Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine. See below for some of the extras installed by Seaboard Marine. Along with the new engine a new shaft, dripless shaft seal, rudder seal, cutlass bearing, and new prop were installed. The engine currently has about ~300 Hours.

Engine Upgrades (all of these were done at the time of the engine install)

Seaboard Marine Upgrades

-The gauge cluster for this engine was upgraded to an SMX digital cluster. This allows for much more information to be displayed in a smaller footprint.

-The alternator was upgraded to a 160 AMP Large Frame alternator

-The engine was upgraded with an envirovent crankcase breather kit to maintain a cleaner bilge and cleaner engine oil. There is a spare set of the washable filters so that you can just swap them out and clean the second pair at a later time.

-SMX duel fuel filter setup with vacuum gauges to aid in determining filter life

Other Engine Install notes:

-The engine was installed slightly more forward than the factory Albin install. This allows access to the front of the engine to make maintenance easier. The factory Albin install makes the simple task of changing a belt difficult..

-A custom dry exhaust riser and custom intake tubing was added in order to prevent any chance of water getting through the exhaust and into the turbo. The factory Albin install does not take this into account and there are numerous reports of people having to replace turbos due to saltwater intrusion.

-All engine wiring was replaced, all engine to boat hoses were replaced, engine seastrainers and thruhull were replaced


Nearly every electronic in this boat has been upgraded. All electronics are NMEA 2000 and talk to each other allowing everything to be controlled from the Display.

-New Lewmar Anchor windlass (2016, 600' of new rode and 25' of chain were added at this time as well as an anchor flip link to ensure that anchor comes up in the correct orientation. This boat has a massive anchor locker, you could probably fit close to 2000' of rode if you wanted to)

-Entire hull bottom was soda blasted, barrier coated, and bottom painted with Petitt Hydrocoat (2015)
